Kansas City Art Institute

Kansas City Art Institute is a private, four-year college of fine arts located in Kansas City, Missouri. Founded in 1885 by a group of art enthusiasts who informally got together to form the “Sketch Club” that met regularly for the purpose of discussing matters pertaining to art or to judge photos, the institute now holds the reputation of being a distinguished college of art and design.

The institute grants a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree with a comprehensive liberal arts core that leads to the pursuit of a specialization or major in 13 areas that include Animation, Art History, Ceramics, Creative Writing, Digital Filmmaking, Digital Media, Fiber, Graphic Design, Illustration, Painting, Photography, Print Making and Sculpture. The entire institute is divided into the four distinguished Schools of the Foundation Year; Liberal Arts; Fine Arts; and Design and Electronic Arts.

Total cost of attendance at the institute is made up of tuition and fees, room and board, and books and supplies. For academic year 2009-2010, the cost of tuition for fulltime students taking up 12 to 18 hours per semester is US$28,580 per year. An additional fee of US$1,190 per credit hour will be charged for those taking up more than the required 18 hours as well as those who enroll in less than 12 credit hours. Yearly cost for room and board ranges from US$8,710 for a double room, US$7,810 for a triple room, and US$11,480 for a single room. Estimated cost for books and supplies is US$3,000 per year and for transportation, US$3,500 per year.

Freshman students of the institute live on campus at the Student Living Center. Upper-classmen are presented with various options for off-campus housing facilities.
