University of Missouri
Known informally as Mizzou, the University of Missouri is the leading public university in the state, located in Columbia. As the flagship state school, MU was founded in 1839 and has over 30,000 active students and nearly 250,000 alumni. Offering more than 250 degrees across its 20 colleges, the school is best known as having the first dedicated journalism program, which is well regarded nationwide, along with competitive programs in medicine, law, business, biology and agricultural science.
Accredited by the Association of American Universities, Mizzou is a leading public University. Along with a number of undergraduate programs, the school is home to a number of leading research facilities including the School of Information Science, a dedicated College of Veterinary Medicine as well as the Truman School of Public Affairs. The leading journalism school works closely with major media outlets, helping to run the NBC KOMU television station, as well as publishing a daily student newspaper and placing students in international journalism positions on a regular basis.
