Great Basin College

Great Basin College is a school of higher education located in Elko, Nevada. Founded in 1967 initially as Elko Community College, the school was later renamed Northern Nevada Community College before it was finally called its current name – Great Basin College. Tasked to provide higher learning to students throughout rural Nevada, Great Basin offers two-year associate’s and four-year bachelor’s degrees in a wide-range of subjects.

For Associate of Applied Science, Great Basin offers degrees in the fields of business, computer office technology, criminal justice, early childhood education, industrial technology, and nursing. For its four-year degrees, it has programs in elementary and secondary education, applied science, nursing and integrated professional studies. Great Basin also offers certificate programs and short-term training courses in various business, secretarial/administrative assistant, and industrial arts fields. Although its main campus is located in Elko, northeastern Nevada, the college also maintains branch campuses in the communities of Battle Mountain, Ely, Pahrump and Winnemucca and has satellite centers in almost 20 communities across Nevada.

For academic year 2009-2010, cost of tuition for in-state students is US$60 per credit for lower-division courses and US$96.25 for upper-division courses. For non-resident students, the cost of tuition is US$63 per credit plus the US$80 for lower-division courses and for the upper-division courses, US$102.75 per credit plus the US$96.25. A technology fee of US$4 per credit is applied to all courses. Financial Aid is extended to students in the form of scholarships and loans.

On-campus housing facilities are available for single, married and married with children students of Great Basin. Student resident suites are located just across the main campus at Elko while apartment-type dwellings for married students are located two blocks away.
