Chester College of New England
Founded in 1965 by Dr. Faith Preston as White Pines College, the college grew to become the Chester College of New England. It maintains an 80-acre campus with state of the art resources, and community-oriented facilities in Chester, New Hampshire.
The College opened in 1967 with five classrooms and 10 students. It concentrated on Liberal Arts with majors in Business Management, General Studies, and Secretarial Science.
Today, Chester College confers degrees through four departments. The Department of Photography, Media Arts, and Design offers degrees in Photography and Media Arts (concentrations: photography; video production; digital media arts), Graphic Design, and Communication Arts. Degrees offered by the Department of Writing and Literature is concentrated in either Creative Writing or Professional Writing. For the Department of Fine Arts, the major is in Fine Art. For the Department of Interdisciplinary Studies, concentration is in Interdisciplinary Arts.
The Interdisciplinary Arts major allows students to design their own personalized major from two or more courses from the other departments. Suited for students whose interests span more than one discipline and who seek to combine them in one program of study, the major can fulfill the needs of students whose seek to combine creative writing and visual art with a discipline in liberal arts or for students who desire to unite multiple interests from a range of creative fields such as creative writing in combination with photography and fine art.
