Princeton University is a private educational institution known for its high-quality undergraduate programs and outstanding research facilities. The school was chartered in 1746 as the College of New Jersey. It was known by that name until 1846, when its expanded program options gave it university status. The newly-dubbed Princeton University was named to honor the community in which it is located.
The Princeton student body is made up of 4,850 undergraduate students and 2,296 graduate students. Faculty members number 850, and the student-to-teacher ratio is a very low 5:1.
Degree Programs at Princeton University
Undergrad students at Princeton can work toward their Bachelor of Arts degree or Bachelor of Science in Engineering. For the first two years of the program, students take some general courses. They aren’t required to choose a major until the spring of their sophomore year.

Princeton University Admission Requirements
Along with a Common Application and Princeton Supplement, prospective Princeton students will be asked to provide a transcript and recommendations from two teachers. Application forms will be accepted online or on paper, and the deadline for submission is January 1. SAT or ACT test results will also need to be submitted.
Princeton looks at your marks, to be sure, but this institution is also interested in who the prospective student is. The Selection Committee wants to know about your accomplishments outside of the classroom as well. Approximately 10 percent of applicants are accepted to Princeton.
Princeton University Tuition
The cost of tuition at Princeton is $34,290 per academic year. If you want to live on campus, you will need to pay $6,205 for your room charge. A full meal plan will cost an additional $5,200. You will also need to budget an additional $3,495 to cover the cost of books, supplies, laundry, etc.
Princeton is known for offering a generous financial aid package to ensure that no student who qualifies for acceptance will be unable to attend because of a lack of funds. This a very selective school, and less than 10 percent of those who apply are accepted into the undergraduate program.
Princeton University Sports
Princeton has consistently ranked in the Top 10 for the performance of its sports teams by Time and Sports Illustrated. The field hockey team has consistently won every conference title since 2004. The squash, lacrosse, basketball, and rowing teams have also performed very well in competition.
