Eastern New Mexico University
Eastern New Mexico University is a state institution established in 1934 primarily to serve students from New Mexico. Its main campus is located in Portales, while its two branch community colleges are located at Roswell and Ruidoso. All three campuses are located in New Mexico but the student body has since diversified to include students from other states and foreign countries. The Portales Campus offers four-year courses while the Roswell and Ruidoso campuses offer two-year courses. The university likewise offers interactive distance education online and through public broadcast television.
Eastern New Mexico University seeks to provide academic and extra-curricular programs that are student-centered to ensure student success. All university- employed faculty and staff are encouraged to pursue professional development opportunities to stimulate better efficiency and productivity in the classroom and university environment. The university has recently made changes in its curriculum in its goal to rejuvenate the non-traditional student population or students who may experience more difficulty in earning a college degree than most students due to work or family obligations.
Degrees offered include associate, bachelor’s and master’s degrees. Eastern New Mexico University is nationally accredited by the Higher Learning Commission and is a member of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools. The university has been formally involved in assessment since 1986 to improve student learning while seeking the best assessment practices and methods. The latest additions to its various programs are in the fields of Animal and Dairy Science, Aviation Science, Digital Cinema Arts, Emergency Medical Services Management, Environmental Science, Forensic Science, Hospitality Management and Professional Technical Education. The top undergraduate majors are Biology, Business Administration, Communication, Criminal Justice, Education, Elementary Education, Physical Education and Psychology. The university is proud of its affordable education which is said to be the second-lowest tuition and fees in New Mexico.
