Bard College
Bard College is a four-year residential college founded in 1860 amidst historic riverfront estates in Annandale, Hudson Valley, NY. Its more than 40 academic programs fall under four main divisions namely the Arts; Languages and Literature; Science, Mathematics and Computing and Social Studies. A dual-degree program is offered by the Bard College Conservatory of Music enabling students to earn a Bachelor’s Degree in Music concurrently with a B.A. or another field.
The Annandale campus serves at least 1,600 students with a student-to-faculty ratio of 9:1. Undergraduate classes typically have an average of 18 students. Graduate degrees include Master of Arts in Teaching, Fine Arts, Master of Arts in Curatorial Studies, Master of Arts in Teaching, Master of Arts and Doctor of Philosophy in the History of the Decorative Arts, Design and Culture, Master of Music in Vocal Arts and Conducting and Master of Science in Environmental Policy.
The educational cost of going to Bard College is $ 50,000.00 inclusive of tuition, fee, room, board, books and allowance for personal and transportation expenses. Encompassing over 500 acres of picturesque land advantageously including forests, streams, fields and notable architecture, Bard College is the very picture of a quality educational institution. The college’s history traced its beginnings in 1860 as St. Stephen’s College with a primary objective to preparing young men in entering to seminaries of the Episcopal Church. It became an undergraduate school of Columbia University in 1928 but severed such relationship when Bard College became a coeducational institution in 1944. The 1960s onwards saw the increase in the number of students and faculty. The first graduate program was established in 1981. Bard College collaborated with New York City’s Board of education in 2001 to create a 4-year alternative to traditional high school in 2001. It continues to allow changes and to take risks in its pursuit of excellence in education.
