Hamilton College
Hamilton College is a private four-year liberal arts college located in Clinton, New York. It is the third oldest college established in New York after Columbia and Union.
Although Hamilton was founded in 1793, it was initially called the Hamilton-Oneida Academy. It was only in 1812, that the college became known as Hamilton College. Initially an all-male institution, it became co-educational in 1978 after it merged with the all-female Kirkland College.
Hamilton is a liberal arts college and as such its core curriculum is a comprehensive liberal arts program. Upon completion, the students then decide on the professional course to pursue. A wide range of majors are available although the most popular ones include Economics, Government, Psychology, Mathematics, History, World Politics, Biology, Communication, Sociology, and English. The college has 174 full-time faculty members, 97% of whom hold the highest degree in their chosen field. Class size is no more than 10 and the student to faculty ratio is 10 to 1 assuring students that their professors will always have time for them.
For academic year 2009-2010, the cost of attendance at Hamilton College is US$49,860. This includes full-year tuition, room and board, and the required student activity fee. Aside from these direct costs, there are other estimated costs a student may incur upon admission and these include expenses for books and supplies, miscellaneous personal expenses and travel allocation. All in all, these may total to about US$4,000.
To help students pay for the cost of attendance, the college extends financial aid in the form of loans, scholarships, and campus employment.
Off campus housing facilities are available for students who are interested. All they need to do is submit an application at the Residential Life office.
