Hobart and William Smith Colleges

Hobart and William Smith Colleges are two colleges that join together and share one common goal – to provide high-quality liberal arts education to its students by offering them Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Science and Master of Arts in Teaching degrees.

Located in Geneva, New York, the colleges offer a core curriculum centered on a liberal arts and science program that requires students to take a number of general education subjects that will help them better appreciate their field of specialization. Once the core curriculum has been completed, students can then choose from over 40 majors and 60 minors to complete their degree program.

Presently, there are 2,091 undergraduate students and 8 graduate students enrolled at Hobart and Smith Colleges. They are guided in their pursuit of higher learning by 178 full-time faculty members. With the average size per class no more than 17 students and the student to faculty ratio at 11 to 1, students are guaranteed a more focused type of training from their professors.

For academic year 2009-2010, total cost of attendance at the colleges is US$50,245 broken down into US$39,144 for tuition, US$10,024 for room and board, and US$1,077 for miscellaneous fees. An additional cost that varies by student is the cost of books, supplies and other personal expenses for the year. To help students pay for their tuition, financial aid is granted in the form of loans and grants.

On campus housing is available to students. Freshmen are housed in rooms and residential halls while upper classmen are allowed to live in apartment type housing facilities. Although the campus is residential, the school cannot yet provide all students with on-campus housing.
