Manhattan School of Music
Performance becomes an integral part of the lives of every student of Manhattan School of Music with hundred of concerts, recitals and master classes conducted each year. Being one of the leading private music conservatories in the US, at least 275 faculty members have joined together to develop over 800 students into world-class musicians. Manhattan School of Music is located at 120 Claremont Avenue, New York on the Northwest corner of Broadway and 122nd Street. Its main entrance however can be found at 601 West 122nd Street.
Degree and diploma programs are offered by the school at the undergraduate, graduate and doctoral levels. Choices in majors include all orchestral instruments, voice, piano, saxophone, organ, guitar, accompanying, conducting, composition and jazz. Students are given the opportunity to learn from accomplished musicians including soloists and members of notable performing institutions such as the New York Philharmonic and Metropolitan Opera, among many. The school is also at the forefront of distance learning in the field of music performance and education.
Founded by Janet D. Schenk in 1917 as the Neighborhood Music School, many distinguished artists were quick to offer their professional guidance to the school. The school’s main building provided the original home of the Institute of Musical Art which was the forerunner of the Julliard School. It now houses the instruction, performance, study, research and dining spaces as well as all administrative offices. The residence hall is located adjacent to the main building.
Tuition for a 15-week semester with 60-minute private lesson is $ 3,545.00 or $ 3,005.00 with a 40-minute private lesson for Primary Instrument. The same load for a secondary instrument cost $ 1,255.00 with a 60-minute private lesson or $ 985.00 with a 40-minute private lesson. Electives, chorus and orchestra courses have different tuition rates. The annual academic cost of attending the Manhattan School of Music amounts to approximately $ 51,025.00.
