Appalachian State University
The Appalachian State University is nestled in the midst of the Blue Ridge Mountains in the northwestern part of North Carolina. This university traces its roots to Watauga Academy, which was founded in 1899. Today, the Appalachian State University is considered to be one of the outstanding comprehensive universities in the United States. In addition to this, the university has also been tagged as an environment friendly campus by the National Wildlife Federation Report Card.
Both undergraduate and graduate degree programs are offered in this university. Some of the undergraduate majors available at the Appalachian State University include Accounting, Actuarial Sciences, Appropriate Technology, Art, Communication Studies, Computer Science, Criminal Justice, Physics, Theatre Arts, and Religious Studies. The graduate degree programs are just as extensive: English (MA), Criminal Justice (MS), Business Administration (MBA), to name a few. The total number of majors available in the university – undergraduate and graduate combined – is more than 140. Special programs are also available, including online classes for those on the go.
As of Fall 2008, the total number of students enrolled is 16,610. The student to faculty ratio is 17 to 1, and the classes average at only 25 students each. These figures support healthy interaction among students and faculty as well.
The tuition at the university is $10,251 per academic year for in state students, and $20,872 for out of state students. These amounts cover tuition and other fees as well as room and board costs. The Department of Housing and Residence Life oversees the various housing options in the campus. Residence halls are available for single students while Mountaineer apartments are available for married students.
