Catawba College
Catawba College, the sixth-oldest college in North Carolina, was established in 1851 by the United Church of Christ as a private, coeducational institution initially specializing in liberal arts education but later adding science programs to its curriculum.
Located in the city of Salisbury, Catawba’s 276-acre campus houses 30 buildings adjacent to Catawba’s own ecological sanctuary, about an hour’s drive to the Charlotte, Greensboro and Winston-Salem districts and only a few hours from the Atlantic Coast and the Appalachian Mountains of western North Carolina.
More than 1,200 students are enrolled in Catawba attended to by 78 full-time faculty for a student-faculty ratio of 15:1. The racial mix of its student population is composed mostly of white Americans (80%) followed by Afro-Americans (15%) with the balance spread among native American, Hispanic and Asian.
Catawba offers several undergraduate degrees including Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Science in over 40 disciplines and a graduate degree in Master of Education. Many of these disciplines offer internship programs ranging from semester-long positions with governmental agencies and with corporations engaged in such services as entertainment, medicine, and tourism.
Full-time tuition cost $35,340 including tuition and fees at $23,740, room and board at $8,200, books and supplies at $1,000 and other expenses at $2,400. With housing guaranteed for four years, nearly 80% of students live on campus.
More than 40 student groups, including honor societies and special interest clubs, operate within the confines of the campus.
Catwaba is a member of NCAA Division II–South Atlantic Conference participating in Baseball, Basketball, Cross Country, Field Hockey, Football, Golf, Lacrosse, Soccer, Softball, Swimming, Tennis and Volleyball inter-collegiate athletics.
