Davidson University
One of the top liberal arts colleges in the United States, Davidson University is a residential campus located in a 450-acre lot in Davidson Town, north of Charlotte, North Carolina. Established in 1837 by Presbyterians, the college employs 162 full-time faculty members that provide highly selective undergraduate liberal arts courses to 1,700 students, 50% of whom are men and 50% are women. The student-to-faculty ratio of the college is 10 is to 1 with the average size per class no greater than 15 students.
Alma mater to 23 Rhodes Scholars, Davidson University continues to offer courses in disciplines relating to the arts, languages, and science. Each student is required to take up one major subject as part of his graduation prerequisites. He may also choose to pursue a minor and take up a designated set of 5 or 6 courses. The university offers 20 majors, 12 minors and disciplinary studies. Pre-professional programs available include Pre-Med, Law, Business, Ministerial, and Management.
For academic year 2009-2010, the basic fees for admission include tuition and student activity fee of US $35,124; room fee of US $5,231 plus a 19-meal fee of US $4,675 or a total admission cost of US$45,030. An orientation fee of US$150 is also charged to first-year students and transfers. The reason for the room and meal fees is that all students are required to live on campus. Those who do not want to live on campus must seek permission from the Director of Residence Life and must provide a valid reason (i.e., an existing medical condition). To date, 91% of the student population are living on-campus.
