Duke University was established in 1924 by James Buchanan Duke as a tribute to his father, Washington Duke. The campus is located in Durham, North Carolina. Duke is a private school that is known for its world-class research facilities and gothic architecture. Getting Accepted to Duke
Prospective Duke University students need to submit the Common Application form and the Duke Supplement. Applicants can include short answers to questions asked by the University as part of their materials. Duke Admissions will also look at a one-page letter written on behalf of the prospective student by a friend or family member. The answers to questions and letter of recommendation are optional materials that will provide more information about the prospective student, and not required.
If you want to apply for Early Decision, the deadline is November 1 for your application form, teacher evaluations, school report, transcript, and SAT or ACT test results. Students who have artistic talent are invited to submit additional materials to be evaluated by the appropriate department. Regular Decision applicants must submit their materials by January 2.
Tuition & Financial Aid at Duke

Duke Sports
The Duke Blue Devils varsity teams at Duke compete in the Atlantic Coast Conference in a number of sports, including basketball, cross country, football, golf, lacrosse, swimming and diving, track and field, and volleyball, and wrestling. Teams from Duke have won nine national championships. The men’s basketball team has distinguished itself by winning top honors three times. Students at Duke can also take part in intramural and club sports like basketball, soccer, softball, and kickball.
