Livingstone College
Livingstone College is a private, historically black college located in Salisbury, North Carolina. Founded in 1879 by ministers of the African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church, Livingstone College was first known as Zion Wesley Institute, a learning institution whose main aim was to train ministers in the Cabarrus County town of Concord, North Carolina. After a brief period of existence, the institute had to close down and the ministers began the work of fundraising in an effort to reestablish it. In 1882, through a generous donation and an invitation to relocate by the Rowan County town of Salisbury, the school was re-opened and in 1887 was renamed Livingstone College in honor of the great Christian missionary, philanthropist and explorer, David Livingstone.
