Louisburg College

Louisburg College is a private two-year college located in Louisburg, North Carolina. Founded in 1787, Louisburg College is the oldest two-year college in the United States and the only two-year residential college in North Carolina. The college traces its roots to the establishment of two schools: the Franklin Male Academy and the Louisburg Female Academy which opened its doors in 1815. The college remained in operation even during the Civil War. At the beginning of the 20th century, however, many changes took place. The college’s name was changed to Louisburg College and from then on became officially linked with the Methodist Church. In 1931, the college became coeducational.

Today, Louisburg College remains a Methodist-affiliated two-year institution of higher education whose main aim is to provide students with the skills to help them find not only a career but their calling in life.
