Central State University

Affiliated with the African Methodist Episcopal Church, Central State University’s is a Black-administered institution of higher education. It started in 1887 in Tawawa Springs, Ohio, as the Combined Normal and Industrial Department of Wilberforce University.

CSU operates three colleges: the College of Arts and Sciences, the College of Business and Industry and the College of Education.

The College of Arts and Sciences confers degrees in five major disciplines including: Fine and Performing Arts: Advertising Graphics, Art Education, Music – Education Studio Art, Music Performance, and Jazz Studies; Humanities: English, History, International, Languages and Literatures, Journalism and Mass Communication, Philosophy and Religion, and Theatre; Natural Science: Biology, Chemistry, and Physics; Mathematics and Computer Science: Computer Science, and Mathematics; Military Science (ROTC); and Social and Behavioral Sciences: Criminal Justice, Gerontology, Political Science, Psychology, Sociology, and Social Work.

The College of Business and Industry confers degrees in three major areas of study including: Accounting and Economics: Accounting and Economics, Business Administration, Finance, Hospitality Management, International Business Management, Management Information Systems, and Marketing; Manufacturing Engineering – Industrial Technology and Manufacturing Engineering; and, International Center for Water Resources Management – Earth Science and Water Resources Management

The College of Education awards degrees in several programs including: Licensure Programs, Professional Education, Health, Physical Education, and Recreation, Master’s Degree in Education, and Post Baccalaureate Degree in Education.

CSU’s total enrollment is almost 2200 of which 1900 are full-time students. Half of its student population is female. Student to faculty ratio is around 16:1.

Schedule of academic costs for 2009-2010: tuition, health, & fees for Ohio residents – $2,647; out of state students – $5,903. Room and board costs $3,960 for both Ohio residents and out of state students. Total per semester is $6,607 for Ohio residents and $9,863 for out of state students.
