John Carroll University

John Carroll University (JCU) is a Jesuit Catholic institute of higher learning established in 1886 as the St. Ignatius College. It was renamed the John Carroll University in 1923 after the first archbishop of the Catholic Church in the US. Originally located on the Westside of Cleveland, it transferred to its present site in University Heights in 1935. It became a fully coeducational institution in 1968.

University Heights is an attractive residential suburb located about ten miles east of downtown Cleveland, Ohio. The JCU campus stands on a 60-acre landscaped area housing 26 buildings, mostly of Gothic architecture. It provides an ideal location for study and residency being within walking distance of establishments such as banks, major retail outlets, restaurants, pharmacies, convenience stores and coffee houses.

JCU offers its programs in the liberal arts, sciences and business at the undergraduate and graduate level through its College of Arts and Sciences and the John M. and Mary Jo Boler School of Business. It follows the semester calendar consisting of two 15-week semesters plus three summer sessions. The College of Arts and Sciences offers numerous programs from art history to sociology while the School of Business offers its own programs in areas of study such as Accountancy, Management, Education, English, Counseling and Religious Studies. Study Abroad programs are facilitated by the university’s Center for Global Education.

The John Carroll University campus in University Heights has approximately 3,000 undergraduate students and 700 graduate students enrolled in its programs. Student/faculty ratio is 15:1. The faculty consists of more than 250 members, religious and lay imparts the character of Jesuit education particularly with the presence of Jesuits on the faculty as well as in the administration. A full-time undergraduate student pays an approximate annual cost of $ 36, 024.00 inclusive of tuition, fees, room and board. Graduate programs cost from $ 658.00 to $ 809.00 per credit hour depending on the program.
