Lourdes College
Lourdes College is a private commuter college located in Sylvania, Ohio. Founded in 1958 by the Sisters of St. Francis, Lourdes College’s main mission was to “offer its students the opportunity to learn in an environment that follows its Franciscan values of community, learning, reverence and service.” Its initial students were sisters of the order.
Standing in a quiet property made up of 89 acres of woodland, the college maintains small-sized classrooms that seat no more than 40 students. This gave the students a better opportunity to get acquained not just with their classmates but with their teachers as well.
Today, Lourdes remains an independent Catholic college offering Associate’s, Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in the arts and sciences, nursing, and professional studies. There are around 2,319 students enrolled at the college 80% of whom are female and 20% male. The student to faculty ratio remains low at 14 to 1 with the average class size no more than 14 students.
Cost of tuition and fees for fulltime undergraduate students is US$448 per credit hour plus a general fee of US$62 per semester and a student audit fee of US$224 per credit hour. For graduate students, cost of tuition is US$525 per credit hour. Depending on the course enrolled in, additional fees may be charged like laboratory fees, nursing fees and the like. To help students pay for their cost of tuition and fees, financial aid is extended via loans, grants and scholarships for qualified students.
Being a commuter college, there are no on-campus housing facilities at Lourdes. Parking however is free for students who bring their own vehicle to campus.
