The Air Force Institute Of Technology
The Air Force Institute of Technology is a branch of the Air University and Air Education and Training Command. Also known as AFIT, it caters to students aiming to earn their graduate degree in engineering and management. The AFIT also offers continuing education programs for those in technical professions.
Located in Ohio, the institute has three main schools, namely, the Graduate School of Engineering and Management, the School of Systems and Logistics, and the Civil Engineer and Services School. The student to faculty ratio is 10 to 1, making the AFIT quite a specialized school. As can be surmised, the number of students in the whole system is relatively low, ensuring highly individualized instruction.
The Graduate School offers over 30 degree programs spread over six academic departments: Aeronautics & Astronautics, Electrical & Computer Engineering, Engineering Physics, Mathematics & Statistics, Operational Sciences, and Systems & Engineering Management. Students in any of the majors may opt to obtain their master’s degree or Ph.D. Classes are also offered under the continuing education program of the School of Systems and Logistics. There are more than 80 courses on offer, some of which are online classes. These online programs are perfect for practicing professionals.
The tuition rate at AFIT may vary depending on the specific degree program, but in general, one can expect to pay around $14,000, or $309 per credit hour for graduate programs. As for housing options, the institute does not currently have on-site housing. Students may look for room and board in the surrounding areas. Individuals interested in taking up graduate studies at the AFIT should get in touch directly with their offices for more information on the admissions process.
