Founded in 1934 as the Smith Practical Radio Institute, the Cleveland Institute of Electronics was an early pioneer in technical education. By the 1970s the school reached over 40,000 students with a global reach, and gained accreditation of the Ohio State Education Board, the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers and the Distance Education and Training Council over the decades.

As a leading technical education institution, the distance learning programs offer degrees ranging from an Associates Degree in Applied Science in Computer Information, an Associates degree in Applied Electronics Engineering, as well as Bachelor’s Degrees in Computer Information Systems and Electronic Engineering. With dedicated engineering curriculum, the Institute focuses on training future engineers with a thorough background in applied sciences from broadcasting to wireless communications to microprocessors. Recent innovations include new course in Robotics and other emerging technologies.
