Marylhurst University

Marylhurst University is a private, coeducational liberal arts institution founded in 1893 by the Sisters of the Holy Names of Jesus and Mary. Although a Catholic University, it welcomes students of various religious beliefs and backgrounds. It is located at 17600 Pacific Highway, Marylhurst, Oregon. Education in Marylhurst University is deeply rooted in social activism and community service. This is manifested through its continued commitment to organizations such as the Christie School – a residential treatment center for children who are severely emotionally disturbed, the Clackamas Women’s Services, the Marysville Elementary School, the Maybelle Clark MacDonald Center and the Oregon Food Bank.

Accredited by the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities, Marylhurst University awards bachelor’s degrees, graduate degrees, and professional certificates. An estimated 1,902 undergraduate and graduate students comprise the university’s diverse student body. The faculty consists of 52 full-time and 454 part-time members.

Being a commuter college, Marylhurst does not offer student housing. The estimated housing cost in the surrounding area is $ 9,000.00. Tuition costs $ 16,920.00 while other expenses include $ 1,800.00 for books, $ 1,860.00 for personal expenses and $ 1,500.00 for transportation expenses.

Other educational opportunities include the Study Abroad Programs, Center for Learning Partnerships – a program designed to develop employee potentials in cooperation with employers, and Cooperative Programs wherein Marylhurst University partners with outside organizations to provide career-specific coursework. The university has existing co-admission agreements with other educational institutions such as Tillamook Bay Community College, Clark College, Columbia Gorge Community College and many others. This agreement guarantees a smooth transfer to Marylhurst University upon completion of requirements with the originating school.
