Bloomsburg University

Starting out as the Bloomsburg Literary Institute in 1839, Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania is a four-year, public university located at the town of Bloomsburg in North-Central Pennsylvania. It stands adjacent to a prosperous business district. Its 280-acre landscaped campus is divided into the Lower Campus and the Upper Campus. The former houses residence halls, academic buildings, student services, the library and the administration buildings while the latter is occupied by two student apartment complexes, athletic facilities and the university maintenance services. A shuttle bus runs throughout the day to connect these two parts.

The university’s academic offering consist of more than 80 programs leading to bachelor’s degrees, 38 undergraduate minors, 18 graduate programs leading to master’s degrees as well as several certificate programs for professional educators. The student population is made up of about 8,000 undergraduate and 700 graduate students. The faculty has 390 full-time teachers, ninety of whom hold terminal degrees. No teaching assistants handle classes since faculty members take full responsibility in conducting classes.

Pennsylvania residents pay about $ 6,000.00 per semester while non-residents pay a higher rate of $ 9,800.00 to include tuition, fees and typical room and meal plans. The whole campus is networked and technological facilities provide unlimited Internet access to students and free use of subscription databases and server space. Books and supplies cost approximately $ 500.00 per semester. Annual expense for Graduate Programs is estimated at $ 14,755.00 for residents and $ 18,859.00 for non-residents. Bloomsburg University is especially blessed with a beautiful campus with trees, gardens, quiet walks, open spaces and picturesque views. The median class size of lectures is 31 while the student/faculty ratio is 20:1.
