Carlow University
Carlow University is the first Catholic university in Pennsylvania established to offer a liberal arts education to women.
Carlow University’s Oakland campus, just 10 minutes from downtown Pittsburgh, covers for 14 acres in Pittsburgh’s Oakland neighborhood which is home also to the Carnegie Mellon University and the University of Pittsburgh, and within minutes of Chatham College, Duquesne University, Point Park University and Robert Morris University.
Carlow University offers more than 50 academic programs within two divisions and four schools: the Division of Humanities and the Division of Natural Sciences and Mathematics; the School of Education, the School of Management, the School of Nursing and the School for Social Change. It also offers a selection of undergraduate and graduate courses in its Greensburg Education Center in Hempfield Township and in its Cranberry Education Center located at the Regional Learning Alliance in Cranberry.
Graduate programs in Business Administration, Counseling Psychology, Creative Writing, Education, Management and Technology, Nursing, Counseling Psychology, and Professional Leadership at offered by Carlow.
Total enrollment for 2008-2009 school year is more 2,100 students numbering about 1,500 undergraduates and 600 graduate students with more than 20 percent being African American students. With a student to faculty ratio of 12:1, students benefit from close mentoring relationships possible only in small classes. More than seventy percent of senior students gain employment within six months after graduation.
Full-time undergraduate tuition for academic year 2009-2010 is more than $21,700 with double occupancy room and board charges costing more than $8,500. Thirty-eight percent of undergraduate students avail of Pell grants.
