Chestnut Hill College

Chestnut Hill College was founded in 1924 as Mount Saint Joseph College by the Sisters of Saint Joseph to be a Catholic, four-year, liberal arts college for women but subsequently became coeducational in 2003.

Chestnut Hill College currently offers more than thirty majors and nearly thirty minors in the undergraduate school in its campus located on the outskirts of the city limits of Philadelphia.

A Bachelor of Arts degree may be obtained in English, Political Science, English and Communications, Psychology, French, Spanish, History; a Bachelor of Music in Music; and Bachelor of Science in Accounting, Education, Biochemistry, Early Childhood and Elementary Education, Biology, Early Childhood Education, Business Administration, Elementary Education, Chemistry, Human Services, Computer and Information Sciences, International Business, Language and Culture, Computer and Information Technology, Marketing, Communications and Technology, Mathematical and Computer Sciences, Criminal Justice, Molecular Biology, Environmental Sciences, Music, Education, and Sociology.

Master’s degrees can be obtained in Administration of Human Services; Clinical and Counseling Psychology; Education; Holistic Spirituality, Holistic Spirituality and Spiritual Direction, Holistic Healthcare, and Instructional Technology.

An Associate of Arts degree is available in Accounting, Biology, Business Administration, Chemistry, Criminal Justice, French, Psychology, and Spanish.
Five-year Combined Degree Programs can be obtained as follows: B.S. in Computer and Information Sciences or Computer and Information Technology and a M.S. in Instructional Technology; B.A./M.S. in Counseling Psychology; B.S./M.Ed. in Elementary Education with Dual Certification in Elementary and Special Education; and B.S./M.S. – B.S. in Human Services and a M.S. in Administration of Human Services.

Certificate Programs: International Studies, Montessori Specialization, Religious Studies, and Secondary School Education.

It also conducts three special programs: a 5-year dual degree program in Education, Human Services, Psychology, and Applied Technology; a study-abroad program in cooperation with Regents in London, Seisen University in Japan, and Sorbonne in Paris; and an exchange program with other Sisters of St. Joseph schools throughout the U.S.

Chestnut has a total student enrollment of more than 2,100 nearly eighty percent of whom live on campus. At an average class size of 20 students, it has student to faculty ratio 12:1.

Academic costs for full-time students in academic year 2009-2010 is $27,000 for tuition and expenses; for part-time students, $575 per credit. Room and board costs an average of $8,800. On average, students can look forward to receiving at least $10,000 in merit-based financial assistance.
