Drexel University
Drexel University was established in 1891 out of a desire by its founder, Anthony J. Drexel to come up with an institution of higher learning that would assist young men and women to acquire skills and knowledge that will help them cope with the growing industrial society.
Established in the spirit of innovation, Drexel University aims to uphold this tradition by constantly expanding and innovating its curriculum to keep it updated and aligned with current needs of both its students and the community.
Initially founded as a non-degree-granting institution, the university began awarding Bachelor of Science degrees in 1914 following the consolidation of its 18 departments into four distinct schools. In 1927, the university was given permission to confer the master of science degree and in 1965, the doctor of philosophy degree.
Today, Drexel University stands out as Philadelphia’s technological university and the leader in innovations. It has 73 full-time undergraduate programs, 78 master’s programs and 32 doctoral programs.
As a private, non-sectarian institution of higher learning, Drexel has a total enrollment of 11,215 undergraduate students and 6,142 graduate and professional students. Its student to faculty ratio is 9 to 1 which is good for students who are eager to learn and who welcome focused instruction.
To insure that all students wanting to enroll at Drexel University are given the chance to do so, Drexel has established Drexel Online, an innovative, internet-based distance education program. Adhering to the same standards of quality as the on-site courses, the online program was launched for people whose jobs or family status prevent them from attending regular classes.
Cost of admission to Drexel varies depending on the student’s chosen program, fees associated with that program, housing and room and board. All freshman students are required to live on campus.
