Immaculata University

Immaculata University was the first Catholic college for women in the Philadelphia area. Originally established as the Villa Maria College, it traces its origins to the year 1906 when a congregation of sisters known as the Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary bought the college’s present site in Chester County. It was granted a college charter in 1920 and changed its name to Immaculata College in 1929 in accordance with government regulations prevailing at that time with regards to the naming of the post office. The college has gained university status in 2002.

The university is located at 1145 King Road, Immaculata, Pennsylvania. This Catholic, coeducational institution has adopted a three-college structure comprised of the College of Undergraduate Studies, the College of Lifelong Learning and the College of Graduate Studies. The congregation behind the university is a Pontifical Religious Institute with its Immaculata branch consisting of 900 sisters staffing various Catholic schools in Pennsylvania and other states including New Jersey, Connecticut, Virginia, Georgia, North Carolina and Florida.
