Lock Haven University of Pennsylvania

Lock Haven University of Pennsylvania or LHU is a state university located in Lock Haven along the Susquehanna River. One of the 14 members of Pennsylvania’s State System of Higher Education, LHU’s main campus is a 200 acre property in Lock Haven. It has branch campuses in Clearfield and at the Sieg Conference Center. A new East Campus building also stands in the former Lock Haven high school building.

Founded in 1870, LHU was initially known as the Central State Normal School renamed in 1927 as the State Teacher’s College in Lock Haven. The aim of the school then was to provide training for would-be teachers. It was in 1983 when it finally joined the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education and eventually became known as Lock Haven University of Pennsylvania.

Currently, LHU offers various undergraduate programs and some graduate programs to over 5,500 students spread over all of LHU’s campuses. Its graduate programs include Master of Education, Master of Liberal Arts, and Master of Health Science.

Cost of attendance for academic year 2009-2010 is US$13,617.40 for in-state undergraduate students and US$20,053.40 for out-of-state undergraduates. These costs include full-year tuition, room and board, educational fee and technology fee. It does not include the cost of a mandatory laptop. For graduate students, the cost of a standard three-credit course varies according to the course chosen. To help students pay for their cost of tuition and mandatory fees, financial aid is extended in the form of grants, loans and scholarships.

On campus housing is available via seven traditional residence halls and one apartment building.
