Millersville University of Pennsylvania

Millersville University of Pennsylvania is a public university established in 1855 as a teacher’s college. A direct product of the normal school movement which believed that training institutions of qualified teachers need to be established for free public education to succeed, the university was and continues to be committed to the ideals of teacher training. It went through the usual process of name changes that went with development. Thus, from Lancaster County Normal School, it became the Millersville State Normal School in 1859, the Millersville State Teacher’s College in 1927, the Millersville State College in 1959 and finally the Millersville University of Pennsylvania in 1983.

The university can be found at 1 South George Street, Millersville, Pennsylvania. It occupies a 250-acre campus in the heart of Lancaster County, housing a mix of 86 historic and modern structures. Its location provides easy access to major East Coast cities including Baltimore, Philadelphia, Washington D.C. and New York City.
Undergraduate students number at 7,216 while graduate students number at 1,103. Providing their services for the student’s educational needs are 333 full-time and 129 part-time faculty members as well as 613 staff and administrative members. Average class size is 25 while student/faculty ratio is 18:1.
