Moore College of Art and Design
Moore College of Art and Design was established in 1848 by Sarah Worthington Peter as the Philadelphia School of Design for Women. It is the first and only women’s college for the visual arts in the US. It is located at 20th Street and The Parkway in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania right in the very heart of the Museum District of the city.
From its first major in textile design offered during the Industrial Revolution, Moore College of Art and Design is presently offering 9 Bachelor of Fine Arts Programs with the addition of Art Education, Art History, Curatorial Studies, Fashion Design, Illustration, Interior Design, Photography and Digital Arts as well as Fine Arts with emphasis on 2D and 3D. The college’s curriculum has recently been expanded to include three graduate programs, Post-Baccalaureate Programs and Continuing Education Programs for Youth and Adults. The Textile Design major has been deactivated starting with the 2009/2010 academic year although several textile design courses supporting the Fashion Design and Fine Arts majors shall continue to be offered.
Total enrollment for BFA programs is 500 students while faculty members number at 142. Student/faculty ratio is 8:1. The college is accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education.
Full-time students are charged an annual tuition of $ 28,140.00 with all credits beyond 18 per semester charged $ 1,174.00 per additional credit. Students taking less than 12 credits are also charged $ 1,174.00 per credit with the exception of Post-Baccalaureate Art Education students, who pay $ 778.00 per credit. Room and board costs $ 10,930.00 while the general college fees amount to $ 964.00. Estimated cost of books and supplies per year is $ 2,000.00 although there may be variations depending on program requirements. Graduate programs cost $ 1,239.00 per credit.
