Moravian College

Moravian College is a liberal arts institution founded by the followers of John Amos Comenius in 1742. Comenius is known as the “father of modern education” largely due to his revolutionary educational principles. The college traces its beginnings to a girls’ school established by Countess Benigna von Zinzendorf which was apparently in accordance with a long-time Moravian tradition. Comenius was one of the bishops and pioneer educators of the Moravian denomination. Moravian College is a direct result of the merger between the Bethlehem Female Seminary and the Moravian College and Theological Seminary for Men. It became the first coeducational institution of higher learning in Lehigh Valley.

Academic programs are provided in several areas of study including Business and Management, Education, Health Care, Nursing, Science and Liberal Arts. These programs are offered in the baccalaureate, post-baccalaureate, master’s and professional certificate levels. The Comenius Center as a division of Moravian College handles the Continuing Education Programs for adults. Classes are offered in the evening, late afternoon and weekend schedules.

Undergraduate-level courses at the Comenius Center cost $ 1,132.00 for I unit or 4 credits while non-credit courses cost $ 355.00 per credit. Moravian College Day Division undergraduate-level courses cost $ 3,415.00 for 4 credits. Graduate-level courses range from $ 1,110.00 to $ 1,911.00 per 3-credit course. Senior citizens are only charged half the tuition rate plus the full amount of fees.

Located at 1200 Main Street, Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, Moravian College occupies its space in the attractive tree-lined City of Bethlehem located at the center of the Lehigh Valley Community. Its campus actually consists of two campuses found at each end of the so-called “Moravian mile” which is a stretch of the Main Street.
