Erskine College
Erskine College is the oldest four-year college in South Carolina that is church-affiliated. Having a strong belief that facts and faith are inseparable, Erskine College offers liberal arts education in a Christ-centered environment as envisioned by the Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church who founded the college in 1839. It traces its origin to an academy for men established earlier by the church in 1835. The year 1927 saw the merger of Erskine College with another church-founded school – the Due West Female College.
The college campus is situated in the town of Due West in historic Abbeville County in South Carolina. The town is within easy access to the cities of Atlanta, Columbia, Charlotte and Greenville. Occupying a 90-acre property in Washington Street, the college provides facilities that are both classic and modern. A number of antebellum buildings effortlessly blend with state-of-the-art science and math education facilities.
Total present enrollment is 600 with a student faculty ratio of 12:1. The Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools has accredited Erskine College to award Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Science degrees. The various academic programs are offered by the college’s Departments of Art; Bible, Religion and Philosophy; Biology; Business Administration; Chemistry; Physics; Education; English; Health; Physical Education; Sports Management and Sports Medicine; Athletic Training; History and Politics; Mathematics; Modern Languages; Music; and Psychology. Foreign Study opportunities are also given in countries including Scotland, England, France, Spain and Mexico.
The Erskine Theological Seminary serves as the professional school of Erskine College. Tuition for the seminary programs is about $ 350.00 per credit hour. Educational cost for bachelor degree programs is $33,270.00 inclusive of tuition, room and board.
