Bethel University
Bethel is a private, 4-year university affiliated with the Cumberland Presbyterian Church. Its academic facilities are spread over 100 acres of land in McKenzie, Northwest Tennessee. It has five satellite campuses in Jackson, Clarksville, Nashville, Chattanooga and Memphis. The university is comprised of the College of Liberal Arts, College of Professional Studies and College of Graduate Studies.
The school was founded as the Bethel Seminary in 1842 at the frontier town of McLemoresville. It was primarily devoted to ministry training of young men as well as those intending to pursue higher learning. It moved to its present location in 1872 wherein a single large brick building served as the entire school for 50 years. Bethel survived the Depression and two World Wars and went on to create educational opportunities for its learning community.
The degrees offered by Bethel University include Master of Arts, Master of Business Administration, Master of Science, Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Science and Bachelor of Science in Nursing. A major field of study is selected depending on the area of the student’s interest. For this purpose, the university offers divisions in which to choose from. These divisions would include Business Education and Health Sciences, Humanities, Science and Mathematics, Social Sciences and Music which are supported by various concentrations and minors. Programs have been developed to help students complete their desired degree by providing small classes in convenient locations, an accelerated learning schedule, and a personal laptop computer. A core curriculum of 38 to 39 credit hours must be taken by every student as part of his/her course of study.
Enrolment has increased considerably in the last 10 years. At present, Bethel has a total of 2,626 students, an all-time record high for the university. Full-time comprehensive cost is $ 19,168.00 including tuition, mandatory fees, room and board. Part-time tuition is $ 358.00 per credit hour.
