Johnson Bible College

Johnson Bible College (JBC) is a private coeducational institute of higher learning having for its main goal the education of students for the preaching ministry. It also aims to provide programs in Christian leadership and community service. The college was founded in 1893 by Ashley Johnson and is considered as America’s second oldest continuing Bible College. It is located at 7900 Johnson Drive, Knoxville, Tennessee.

JBC occupies a 350-acre campus situated 12 miles southeast of Knoxville. Although a nondenominational college, JBC is associated with the Independent Christian Churches/Church of Christ. It is accredited by the Association for Biblical Higher Education as well as the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools to award associate, bachelor’s and master’s degrees.

Undergraduate students need to complete a major in Bible plus another major or minor in one of the offered vocational areas including Preaching and Church Leadership, Preaching and Youth Ministry, Teacher Education, Children’s Ministry, Children’s Ministry and Preschool/Day Care, Church Music, Counseling, Intercultural Studies, Leadership and Ministry and Preparation, Management of Non-profit Organizations, Media Ministry, Music/Worship Ministry and Youth Ministry. Graduate programs include New Testament, Master of Arts Post-Baccalaureate Teacher Education K-6, Holistic Education, Marriage and Family Therapy/Professional Counseling, and Bible and Educational Technology. Other educational opportunities are provided by Degree Completion Programs and Distance Learning Programs.

Annual academic costs amount to approximately $ 13,500.00 inclusive of tuition, fees, room and board. Part-time students are charged $ 320.00 per credit hour. More than 800 students coming from 34 states and 10 foreign countries are currently enrolled in JBC’s various programs.

On-campus housing facilities consist of residence halls and family housing units. Room and board charges for students living in residence halls are computed based on 16.5 weeks per semester. Family housing unit choices consist of 3 bedroom duplex, 2-bedroom townhouses and mobile homes.
