Lincoln Memorial University

Lincoln Memorial University is a private, four-year liberal arts college located in Harrogate, Tennessee. Founded in 1897, the university was established to honor the memory of America’s 16th president, Abraham Lincoln, who, as legend goes, expressed a wish to General O.O. Howard for a university to be built in this area after the Civil War had ended. To honor this request, General Howard with the help of congregational minister A.A. Myers and owner of then financially strapped Four Seasons Hotel A.A. Arthur established the Lincoln Memorial University in the site of the former hotel on February 12, 1897.

Today, the university continues to provide educational opportunities to the residents of the area and has produced over 700 alumni actively involved in the field of law and medicine. It offers a comprehensive liberal arts core curriculum and over 30 academic majors ranging from accounting to wildlife and fisheries management in its main campus in Tennessee and in 12 extended sites in surrounding areas.

For its graduate degree programs, it offers Master of Business Administration, Education, Nursing, Medical Sciences in Physician Assistant Studies, Educational Specialist, Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine, Doctorate in Executive Leadership and Juris Doctor.

Cost of attendance at Lincoln Memorial University for academic year 2009-2010 is US$20,700 for fulltime undergraduate students and US$630 per credit hour for part-time. Cost of tuition for graduate students vary per degree program chosen. To help students pay for their cost of attendance, financial aid is extended in the form of loans, grants and scholarships for qualified students.
