Lipscomb University
Lipscomb University is a private, liberal arts, Christian university located in Nashville, Tennessee. Founded in 1891 by David Lipscomb and James A. Harding, the university has strong ties with the Church of Christ and, in fact, was initially established as a Bible college named Nashville Bible School. Later the school was renamed David Lipscomb University and finally Lipscomb University in 2005. Although in the beginning students were required to attend daily Bible classes and chapel services, today, these have been limited to Bible classes three times a week and chapel services twice a week.
Academically, the university is divided into six distinct colleges and institutes. These include the College of Arts & Sciences which provides the liberal arts core of the curriculum, the College of Bible & Ministry, Business, Education, Raymond B. Jones College of Engineering, Pharmacy, Dean Institute for Corporate Governance and Integrity, Institute for Conflict Management, Law, Justice & Society, and Sustainable Practice, all of which focus on a core area. Through these six colleges and institutes, the university is able to offer over 130 programs in various majors leading to a Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Business Administration, Bachelor of Music in Music Education, and Bachelor of Science in Nursing. For its graduate program, the university grants degrees in Bible, Business, Conflict Management, Counseling, Education and Pharmacy.
Cost of attendance for academic year 2009-2010 is US$28,240 per year for fulltime undergraduate students. This includes tuition and the typical fees plus room and board. For graduate students, the basic charge per semester for graduate programs in business is US$942 per semester hour and this includes cost of textbooks and regular fees. Financial aid is extended to qualified students.
