Huston-Tillotson University
Huston-Tillotson University is a private, co-educational learning institution located in Austin, Texas. A historically black university, the school has affiliations with the United Methodist Church, the United Church of Christ and the United Negro College Fund. Established in 1881, the university traces its beginnings to the union of two colleges – the Tillotson College and Samuel Huston College on October 24, 1951 during which it was named Huston-Tillotson College. In February 28, 2005, the school’s quickly expanding involvement in educating the community as well as its widening contribution to education earned it the right to change its name to Huston-Tillotson University.
Today, the mission of Huston-Tillotson University continues to be providing its students with exemplary education based on a strong liberal arts and science background and arming them with the skills to deal with the challenges that lie ahead and to pursue a life of leadership and service to the community.
The university is accredited to grant Bachelor of Arts and post-graduate degrees in a variety of majors such as Education, Business, History, English and Literature, Psychology, and Visual and Performing Arts, to name a few. There are many more for students to choose from. The university is divided into the College of Arts and Sciences and the School of Business and Technology.
Cost of attendance at the university for academic year 2009-2010 is US18,178 for fulltime on-campus students and US$11,434 for fulltime off-campus students. These rates include tuition, required fees and room and board but do not include student health insurance. To help students in paying for these costs, the university extends financial assistance by way of loans, grants and scholarships to qualified students.
