The full name of this institution is William Marsh Rice University. It was founded in 1912 and is a private research university. The campus is located in Houston, TX. This university is known for its Business Administration, Biochemistry, Economics, Music, and Psychology programs.

Admission Requirements

Rice is not an easy university to get into. Only 25 percent of applicants are admitted. If you know that Rice is your first choice and you want to apply for an Early Decision, you will need to have all of your materials submitted to the University by November 1. A decision will be made about your application by December 15. The deadline for a Regular Application is January 2 and decisions are released by April 1.

Tuition at Rice

To study at Rice on a full-time basis, you will be paying $29,960 per academic year. Room and board is $10,750; the cost for a room only is $7,150. All full-time students are required to pay a fee of $519.

Sports at Rice University

Varsity team members at Rice compete in NCAA Division I and are called the “Rice Owls.” The baseball team at Rice defeated Stanford to win the College World Series in 2003. The team has racked up a very impressive record for a small school: it has won 12 conference championships in a row. The Rice Owls men’s basketball team has also performed well in competition. The team won 10 conference titles between 1918 and 1970 (Southwest Conference).

Women athletes at Rice have also distinguished themselves in competition. In the 2004 and 2005 playing seasons, the basketball, soccer, and volleyball teams all played well enough to go to their respective NCAA tournaments. The women’s volleyball team also went to the NCAA tournament in 2008.
