Green Mountain College

Green Mountain College is a private liberal arts college located in Poultney, Vermont in a scenic area at the foot of the Taconic Mountains. Established in 1834, the core of the curriculum that the college offers is the 37-credit Environmental Liberal Arts (ELA) General Education Program that every student of Green Mountain College has to complete before moving on to a degree program. The ELA program incorporates important environmental teachings with the basic skills and content of a comprehensive liberal arts course. At Green Mountain, the focus of studies is always on the environment. Apart from classroom teachings, the college also believes in providing students with hands-on experience on their chosen fields of study. Studies abroad are encouraged along with internships and other service-learning opportunities.

Green Mountain offers students a choice of 25 majors and 27 minors as well as Master’s degrees in Business Administration (MBA) and Master of Science in Environmental Studies (MSES). Special programs on environmental subjects are also available.

Currently, there are 820 undergraduate students enrolled in Green Mountain College under the guidance of 45 full-time faculty members, 91% of them holding doctoral or the highest degree in their chosen field. With a student to faculty ratio of 14 to 1, students are assured of quality time with their professors whenever they need to clarify or inquire about certain issues pertaining to their courses.

Cost of attendance for academic year 2009-2010 is US$36,570. This includes full-year tuition, room and board and the required fees. Financial Aid in the form of loans, grants and scholarships are extended by the college to qualified students.
