Bridgewater College

On a 190-acre campus in the heart of scenic Shenandoah Valley, in the town of Bridgewater, Bridgewater College offers its educational programs characterized by the great influence of the University of Virginia and the Church of the Brethren. The college was founded in 1880 and has since produced leaders in the fields of education, communication, law, medicine, industry and business. It is acknowledged as the State of Virginia’s first coeducational college.

About 1,500 men and women coming from the State of Virginia as well as the Mid-Atlantic States comprise the college’s student body. There are at least 25 other states and 8 foreign countries represented. Bridgewater has 96 full-time faculty members and has a student/faculty ratio of 14:1. Students will find a welcoming learning environment in the campus which is surrounded by numerous historical and cultural attractions.

Bridgewater College is accredited by the Commission on College of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools to offer baccalaureate degrees. It has 17 departments from which students can discover their own passion including Art, Biology, Chemistry, Communication Studies, Economics and Business Administration, Education, English, Family and Consumer Sciences, Foreign Languages, Health and Exercise Science, History and Political Science, Mathematics and Computer Science, Music, Philosophy and Religion, Physics, Psychology and Sociology. The college is especially proud of its Personal Development Portfolio which aims to completely and holistically educate each student.

Founded also as a residential college, Bridgewater College only allows off-campus residency on certain conditions such as residency with parents and/or legal guardians in specified counties or due to some documented medicine or health requirements. Estimated educational expense not including indirect costs amounts to about $ 34,400.00 which is inclusive of tuition, fee, room and board. An additional $ 3,000.00 may be required for books, personal and travel expenses.
