Emory and Henry College

Emory and Henry College is considered as the oldest college in Southwest Virginia having been established in 1836. Unlike most institutions of higher learning that went through a series of name changes, this college has retained its original name which refers to Bishop John Emory and Patrick Henry. Both influential men, the former was an eminent church leader while the latter was a renowned patriot of the American Revolution.

Occupying a 331-acre pristine property in the village of Emory, Virginia, the Emory and Henry College Campus is listed on the National Historic Register in its entirety. The campus affords views of Mount Rogers and Whitetop Mountain, two of the highest peaks of Virginia. It also serves as an academic village as it provides housing facilities not only to students but to professors, administrators and retired college employees as well. Students are guaranteed their housing needs for their four years of attendance in residence halls that offer Internet access and cable service. The college’s address is P.O. The student body is comprised of more than 1,000 students from 24 states and 10 foreign countries. The average class size is 14 while the student/faculty ratio is 11:1. The college maintains 75 full-time faculty members.

The academic offerings of the college are based on a strong liberal arts foundation with programs of study offered in Art, Biology, Business Administration, Chemistry, Computer Information Management, Economics, English, Geography, History, Languages, Mass Communications, Mathematics, Music, Philosophy, Physical Education, Physics, Political Science, Psychology, Religion, Sociology and Theatre. Special and Interdisciplinary Programs are also offered. Full-time resident students are charged a total of $ 33,180.00 to include tuition, room and board while non-residents are charged $ 24,880.00. Part-time students pay $ 995.00 as tuition per semester credit hour.
