Hampton University
Hampton University is a private, historically black university located in Hampton, Virginia. It is a progressive, non-sectarian and non-profit institution of higher learning that provides a broad range of technical, liberal arts, pre-professional, professional and graduate degree programs.
With some of the brightest and most promising students enrolled in its campus, the university seeks to realize its mission to “promote learning, build character and prepare students for positions of leadership and service.”
With a strong liberal arts core curriculum, the university offers students doctoral degrees in nursing, atmospheric and planetary sciences, and physics, the doctor of physical therapy and the Pharm.D. in pharmacy. It also grants Bachelor’s degrees and Master’s degrees in a wide variety of majors. Through the years, Hampton has added more subjects giving students a wider choice of major. The university is made up of seven schools and three colleges; namely, the Schools of Business, Engineering and Technology, Journalism and Communications, Liberal Arts, Nursing, Pharmacy, Science, the College of Education and Continuing Studies, the Graduate College, and the College of Virginia Beach.
For academic year 2009-2010, the cost of tuition is US$15,464 plus room and board of US$7,665. In addition, there are required comprehensive fees that cost a total of US$1,748. Financial aid in the form of loans, grants and scholarships are extended to qualified students to help them pay for their cost of attendance.
Currently, there are 5,063 undergraduate students and 1,089 graduate students enrolled at Hampton University. On-campus housing is available for those who want to apply.
