James Madison University (JMU)

James Madison University (JMU) in its earliest form was established in 1908 by the Virginia General Assembly to educate teachers for Virginia schools. Today, it offers undergraduate and graduate programs in various fields of study although its tradition of producing quality teachers continues. JMU offers its programs through its College of Arts and Letters, College of Business, College of Education, College of Integrated Science and Technology, College of Science and Mathematics, College of Performing Arts and the Graduate School. It has a total of 106 degree programs including 68 undergraduate, 30 master’s , 2 educational specialist and 6 doctoral.

More than 17,000 students are presently enrolled in JMU’s on-campus programs. Undergraduate tuition per semester for in-state students is $ 3,622.00 while out-of-state students are charged $ 9.688.00 per semester. Room and board cost approximately $ 3,693.00 per semester. Distance learning programs and online courses are offered through JMU online.

There are three honors program tracks offered to students excelling academically at James Madison University. Track I welcomes at least 200 freshmen every year to participate in four years of study in a baccalaureate degree program in any major. Scholars need to complete honors work of at least 27 credit hours while maintaining at least a 3.25 cumulative grade point average. Track II includes academically qualified students who have completed one to three semesters at JMU while Track III typically include junior non-honors students desiring to complete an honors project in their senior year.
