Marymount University
Marymount University is a comprehensive, coeducational Catholic university founded by the Religious of the Sacred Heart of Mary (RSHM) in 1950. Its main campus is located in Arlington, Virginia but it also offers its programs through its Ballston Center and Reston Center, both located also in Virginia. The university is committed to the liberal arts tradition and seeks to provide a student-centered learning environment for comprehensive learning.
Numerous graduate and undergraduate degree programs as well as certificate courses are offered by Marymount University’s School of Arts and Sciences, School of Business Administration, School of Education and Human Services and the School of Health Professions. The university is accredited by the Commission on Colleges and Schools to award bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral degrees. Specific programs have additional accreditations from corresponding agencies.
The university has several distinctive programs including BA in Fashion Design, BA in Fashion Merchandising, BS in Criminal Justice, Forensic Computing, MA in Forensic Psychology, MA in Pastoral Counseling, Doctor of Nursing Practice, Doctor of Physical Therapy, Online RN to BSN and Online M. Ed. in Catholic School Leadership. Marymount University shares the RSHM legacy with four other institutions of higher learning including the Marymount College in New York, Marymount Manhattan College in New York City, Marymount College in California and the Loyola Marymount in Los Angeles.
The total student population is made up of 2,224 undergraduate and 1,256 graduate students. At least 43 states and 69 countries are represented in the diverse student body. About 20% are residential students while the rest are commuters. The faculty is comprised of 138 full-time and 227 part-time members, almost 90% of whom hold the highest degree in their respective fields.
