Admission Requirements

UVA doesn’t have a minimum GPA or score on an SAT or ACT that will guarantee an applicant a spot. The Admission staff do look at these numbers, as well as your high school transcripts, but they also understand that an applicant is more than a group of numbers. You will need to submit a recommendation from your guidance counselor and provide the University with some information about your extracurricular activities. Prospective students are invited to visit the campus and speak with someone on the Admissions staff, but formal interviews are not required as part of the application process.

If you would like to apply for admission as a freshman, your Common Application form is due on January 2. You have until January 10 to send in your recommendation and transcripts; your mid-year report is due on February 15. On April 1, decision letters are mailed out. UVA allows applicants to find out the decision about their application online.

The rate you will pay for tuition at UVA will depend on whether you are a resident of that State or not. Virginia residents will pay $7,121 per academic year, and non-residents will be charged $27,203. Room and board will cost an additional $7,820; the room cost alone is $4,230.
