The University of Washington is located in Seattle. The school was established in 1861 and it is a public research university. UW (which is pronounced “U Dub”) is the oldest university located on the west coast.

This well-respected school ranked No. 16 in the world according to the Academic Ranking of World Universities. It has a large campus (643 acres) with almost 30,800 undergraduate students and over 12,000 graduate students in attendance. Getting Admitted to University of Washington

You will need to have your application form and required document submitted to the University by January 15. High school transcripts and SAT Reasoning or ACT with Writing test scores must be submitted as well. UW requires prospective students to send in a personal statement and a short essay. You will also be asked to provide an activities log where you write down your extra curricular activities and employment so that the University Admissions Committee can get a clear idea of who you are. You can also write down any additional comments you would like to share with the University. Acceptance letters are mailed by mid-April.

Tuition at UW will set you back $22,667 per academic year. Room and board will cost an additional $7,448 and you will need to budget an additional $552 for fees.

Sports at University of Washington

The University of Washington Huskies participate in the National Collegiate Athletic Association’s Division I-A, as well as the Pacific Ten Conference. Student athletes at UW have excelled in men’s rowing. They won the national collegiate championship in 2007. The team has an impressive record that includes 13 national championship titles and 22 Olympic medals (15 gold, 2 silver and 5 bronze). The women’s rowing team has won 10 national championships and 2 Olympic gold medals. The women’s volleyball team won the national title in 2005, and the women’s cross country team were declared national champions in 2008.
