Alderson Broaddus College

Alderson Broaddus College (A-B) is a private, not-for-profit liberal arts college located in rural Philippi, West Virginia. It is an American Baptist affiliate formed in 1932 due to the merge of Baptist institutions Alderson Academy and Broaddus College.

A-B is known for it breadth of majors available, but is best known for its degree programs in nursing, emergency medicine, natural science, and music. The college has five academic divisions, namely: Education and Special Programs, Health Sciences, Humanities, Natural Sciences and Social Sciences.

The college has approximately 800 students, all of which study full-time. The student faculty ratio is really good with the college ranked to be among the top 8% in terms of student to teacher ratio.

On-campus housing is available with 85% of students staying in the college’s residence halls where male and female students are strictly not allowed to enter the opposite sex’s room after midnight. The college is also a “dry” or alcohol-free campus.

The average tuition for full-time undergrads is $17, 970. All students in the college receives financial aid of some sort with most relying on institutional grants averaging on $9,597 and student loans averaging on $4,259. The college is also known for its athletic scholarships and is in fact very proud of its focus on sports being an NCAA athletic conference member.

A-B is a selective college with 75% of students having SAT verbal scores of 440 and above, and 50% having SAT math scores from 430 to 530. Online applications are accepted. Admissions processing usually take four to eight weeks.
